Adventure cats can get scared sometimes. Positive fear is great and it allows a cat to go from caution to accepting of rejecting a new stimulus.

It’s like when we get our soup served and we don’t know if it’s too hot. We first look for smoke, then touch with a lip, blow and finally decide to try and see how it feels.

When Mia first came home, she was timid. The new environment made her nervous, just like most cats are scared of outdoors when they approach it for the first time.

Cats will refuse to walk past the door or hide inside the backpack, some will be in constant alert and would flinch at sudden movements or loud noises.

Instead, I gave her space.

I offered her the option but did not force her to explore. Each day, Mia grew bolder. She began to venture more comfortably when we were outdoors. I would stand next to her quietly, letting her explore on her terms.

Exposure to different sounds and sights was gentle and controlled. I introduced new places and started traveling together.

By allowing her to progress at her own pace and being there for her without pushing, Mia has become a brave and confident cat.

Not all cats are ready to venture outdoors, but it’s very easy to know if your cat is ready.

There’s a test for it. The adventure cat test.
